LEAD: Conflict Management and Developing Leadership Skills (15 hrs.)  Monday and Tuesday, October 11-12, 2021 

This course is devoted to assisting Assessors in discovering individual talents and strengths and examine how those impact/influence their ability to manage and lead.  Assessors will compare and contrast the similarities and difference of management and Leadership as well as apply effective Communication skills in a leadership capacity.  Additionally the course will help Assessors develop conflict management skills.  Assessors will learn about conflict, conflict management, negotiation skills and communications skills.  Real-life examples will be brought up so that Assessors understand how to apply these skills to managing appeals, setting expectations to meet quintile requirements, working through new property tax laws, brainstorming solutions to get assessment work done, discussing State Board Equalization orders and more!

 

LEAD: Leading by Example when Managing Others and Work (15 hrs.)  Wednesday and Thursday, October 13-14, 2021 

This course is devoted to assisting assessors in becoming more effective in creating training programs, allocating resources, prioritizing workloads, and continuously improving processes. Assessors will learn about project management principles, resource planning, goal setting, performance measurements, training strategies, and continuous improvement methodologies. Real-life examples and case studies will be brought up so that assessors understand how to apply these skills when creating an effective quintile plan, designing an organizational chart that maximizes resources, measuring employee productivity, and consistently reviewing and improving existing processes.  In addition the course is assisting assessors in becoming more effective leaders. They will learn the traits and skills that make-up a successful leader, the various personalities and strengths seen in the workplace, how to approach hiring and developing a cohesive team as well as approaching performance reviews and setting clear expectations. Real-life examples and case studies will be brought up so that Assessors understand how to apply these skills when managing employees, resolving issues, developing a team environment, writing performance reviews and more!

COVID-19 Considerations: MAAO is following the current guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health. Each educational offering is subject to cancellation if mandated by the Governor or due to a change in COVID conditions. A 100% refund will be processed for any registrant due to a COVID-related cancellation. Attendance at any course is at the risk of the employer and attendee. MAAO will not be held liable.

LEAD: Leading by Example when Managing Others and Work - Wednesday and Thursday, October 13-14, 2021 - Registration 7:30 am - 7:50 am, Class Schedule, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm each day 


Fee: MAAO Member: One 2-day course $225.00 or Both 2-day courses $400

Non-Member: One 2-day course $325.00 or Both 2-day courses $505

Class Size:  Minimum of 20 registered and a maximum of 42 registered.

Credits:  Approved for 15 hours of CEHs per 2-day course. These courses qualify toward the 30 hour management/leadership training for SAMA licensure. An assessor who attends and participates all four days will achieve the required 30 hours.

Location:  Best Western Kelly Inn, 100 4th Ave. S., St. Cloud, MN

Food & Beverages:  For student, instructor and employer convenience, lunch and a limited variety of refreshments and snacks are included in your registration fee.  
 
Lodging: A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Kelly Inn for $96/night. To ensure availability and the group rate, make your reservation by September 11, 2021 by calling the hotel directly at (320) 253-0606 and mentioning the MAAO block rate.   
 
Student Expectations:  Each module includes 15 hours of classroom instruction. Students will be expected to participate in discussions, group activities, and coursework that may include but is not limited to reading, homework, problem solving, etc. both during and outside classroom hours. 

ADA Policy:  If you have a disability and may require some accommodations at any event, please notify us via email at least two weeks in advance and we will attempt to make reasonable accommodations.

Cancellation Policy:  Although it is not the policy of MAAO to cancel an event, be it a course or seminar, MAAO does reserve the right to cancel a course or seminar if the minimum enrollment is not reached.  A refund, less $30 administration fee will be issued for cancellations received five business days prior to the start of the course or conference.  Registrants who fail to attend or cancel prior to the cancellation deadline are responsible for the entire fee.  If a registrant is unable to attend the course or conference, a substitute from the jurisdiction that paid the registration fee can attend at no additional charge.  Please send written notification of this change five business days prior to the start of the event.  MAAO reserves the right to cancel any event if necessary and provide a full refund.  Refunds will be issued within 30 days of the date of the course or conference.
